Just when you thought that solid state drives were catching up to the spinners it is time to think again. Hitachi have informed us that will be releasing a 10TB spinner into the retail market by 2010. They make this claim saying that they will be using a new technology called current CPP-GMR, perpendicular-to-the-plane giant magnetoresistance. Quite a mouthful hey. It is said that the human brain has a minimum capacity of 10TB so what happens when we exceed this amount on one small device? Judgment day is looking more and more possible each day. The upgrade kit for the M1730 is finally available from Dell. This kit provides an upgrade from the dual 8700M GT cards to the dual 8800 GTX cards. The performance increase is said to be entirely worth the upgrade but not entirely worth the price tag. It will set you back just under $1100 if you install yourself and just over $1200 to have it installed by a technician. The performance increase is supposed to be as much as 49% over the 8700's and is capable of running high spec'd games like Crysis in DirectX 10. Whilst many of us who purchased the M1730 too early and were promised great things, I am not sure that the upgrade is entirely worth this amount considering you can buy a new desktop for this price. I think Dell should be coming to the party and giving a discount to the people who already own the M1730 and have been sorely disappointed and let down by the promised performance of the 8700M GT cards. We were promised DirectX 10 compatibility and really didn't get it. Come on Dell come to the party, it was the original purchasers of the M1730 that made the laptop so popular. Jump to article

Have you ever wondered if it would be that hard to hook up multiple computers in the same tower to create the ultimate machine? Well wonder no more, as the creator of the Helmer has given a step by step process on how to do this. He has purchased an Ikea filing cabinet and mounted in 6 motherboards with 6 quad core CPU's and 48 gig of RAM all up. Researchers from the University of Antwerp have built a beast of a machine that has been named the Fastra. Although it was not specifically designed to play Crysis I am sure that it would be perfect to do so at never before seen resolutions and framerates. It has actually been designed to help them develop new computational methods of tomography. This beast is packing 4 of NVIDIA's top of the range 9800 GX2 graphics cards giving it a total of 8 GPU's. With an AMD Phenom 9850 processor and 8 GB of Ram this baby needs a 1500 W power supply. The researchers are claiming that calculations that previously took them hours are now taking a matter of seconds. Jump to article

Samsung have their sights set on the Macbook Air and judging from this prototype it looks like they are in with a fighting chance. This ultra thin laptop looks sexy enough to break some hearts if you choose not to let it break your bank. It appears to have some sort of 3 way fold out system but as this is only a prototype we are all going to have to wait and see if Samsung is even going to release this before we find out much more about it. Dell have upped the available resolution on their award winning XPS 1530 laptop range to a whopping 1920 x 1200 making this laptop completely high definition compatible with only a 15 inch screen. The XPS 1530 is a great mid sized laptop and with this addition plus the availability of the Penryn chip and Blu Ray drive it is going to make it hard for competitors to compete. Many users would agree that the text size on this 15 inch screen is going to be quite difficult to read but I am sure that the media benefits, for those that want them, will be worth it. In reality the human eye is not quite going to be able to make out the difference when watching a high res movie on a screen that small but it still gives the owner something to gloat about, not to mention sore eyes when surfing the net. Nokia's new N810 tablet is turning heads and their latest WiMAX release is going to leave holes in the pockets of many a Nokia fanboy. The only thing that is going to be asked is; why isn't a phone integrated into this device? It is a question that many people will be asking especially considering the fact that they are one of the leading phone developers in the world so they definitely have the technological ability to do so. Despite this setback the N810 is a feature packed little device but I think it would have attracted a much larger portion of the market had it been a phone as well. Jump to article
