NEWS: The AK47 burglar alarm     [ Category - New Inventions ]

2008-04-15 21:41:04 - by Marc B
Although this may not be appropriate for many of us, an Afghani homeowner has gone to the extreme by creating a one off burglar alarm complete with fully functioning remotely controlled AK-47 rifle. Once the alarm is tripped the device is setup to contact him on his mobile phone where he is able to communicate through his phone to the unlucky burglars to warn them from entering his premises. If the warnings are not headed then with the push of a button on his phone he is able to fire the rifle ultimately scaring the trespassers from his property. The questions that need to be asked are: When is he going to Patent this?; When will this be mass produced?; and How much is it going to cost me?.

This latest invention involves the implantation of a thin electronic screen inside the body that is able to display black and white images through your skin. The small fuel cell that will power the device is powered by the blood using glucose and oxygen to create energy. The device is said to have bluetooth capabilities giving it the ability to communicate with devices outside the body after installation.

This unique gadget will have a touchscreen display giving a person the usability of many functions. With the addition of sensor technology it can be used to provide vital health information to a person and would be a major step forward in the medical industry.

This along with thought process controlled devices is a definite sign the sooner rather than later the idea of a cyborg is going to become reality. Scary isn't it?

NEWS: Silicon Nanophotonics     [ Category - New Inventions ]

2008-03-17 20:04:17 - by Marc B
For most of us the words Silicon Nanophotonics would just go in one ear out the other without any chance of deciphering some sort of meaning for the words. But for the guys at IBM whose job it is to get this technology rolling it is another story. It seems like they are using microscopic beams of light to communicate between cores within a multi-core processor to remove the hassles involved with running the signals down a copper wire. I can't wait to see these chips in action and the way things are heading it shouldn't be too much longer now.

Technology is advancing that fast that now Samsung have released a pocket sized projector screen that allows you to potentially have a 50 inch screen in your pocket. How long is it going to be before this will be a standard feature in our mobile phone devices? It won't be long before we have to think of a new name for our mobile phones because they will be so much more than just a phone.

All of us attending lectures wish to possess such a device that would be able to store and reproduce the information given by professors. Of course it's possible to use a simple voice recorder for this purpose, yet it will not help you much, because both aural and visual memories should be involved in the process of memorizing in order to ensure its high efficiency.
