The upgrade kit for the M1730 is finally available from Dell. This kit provides an upgrade from the dual 8700M GT cards to the dual 8800 GTX cards. The performance increase is said to be entirely worth the upgrade but not entirely worth the price tag. It will set you back just under $1100 if you install yourself and just over $1200 to have it installed by a technician. The performance increase is supposed to be as much as 49% over the 8700's and is capable of running high spec'd games like Crysis in DirectX 10. Whilst many of us who purchased the M1730 too early and were promised great things, I am not sure that the upgrade is entirely worth this amount considering you can buy a new desktop for this price. I think Dell should be coming to the party and giving a discount to the people who already own the M1730 and have been sorely disappointed and let down by the promised performance of the 8700M GT cards. We were promised DirectX 10 compatibility and really didn't get it. Come on Dell come to the party, it was the original purchasers of the M1730 that made the laptop so popular. Jump to article

Despite mountains of skepticism the Wii Fit looks like it might hold some substance and a substantial addition to your fitness machine collection. An experiment was setup where someone introduced 45 to 60 minutes of Wii fit into their daily routine and actually lost 15 pounds in 41 days. The subjects body fat reduced, their BMI reduced, their waist line reduced and even their resting heart reduced which gives off the impression that the Wii Fit really does work. Click on the link for all the exact details of this experiment. Jump to article

Microsoft has pledged to continue supporting Windows XP until 2014 making it a 13 year long supported operating system. Microsoft will provide security patches and other critical updates for the OS through until this date at least. Despite the plans to cease selling XP to PC manufacturers and stores Microsoft have admitted that the product will be available to customers who need it. From the looks of it Windows XP appears to be the most successful and desired operating system of the Microsoft range and with Windows 7 already in the works it would seem that it is going to beat Vista as well. Researchers from the University of Antwerp have built a beast of a machine that has been named the Fastra. Although it was not specifically designed to play Crysis I am sure that it would be perfect to do so at never before seen resolutions and framerates. It has actually been designed to help them develop new computational methods of tomography. This beast is packing 4 of NVIDIA's top of the range 9800 GX2 graphics cards giving it a total of 8 GPU's. With an AMD Phenom 9850 processor and 8 GB of Ram this baby needs a 1500 W power supply. The researchers are claiming that calculations that previously took them hours are now taking a matter of seconds. Jump to article

Many of you have been playing the long awaited GTA 4 until your fingers don't work and your eyes can't see anymore. Despite the fact that the gameplay is awesome and you are not entirely unhappy you are still left wondering why so many cool extras have been left out when going from San Andreas to GTA 4. As you may have noticed, the map is somewhat smaller. Although more detailed it is still smaller and from a gamers perspective this can be seen as disappointing as you were probably expecting bigger and better from a sequel to a game that sold almost 22 million copies worldwide. Where are the cool things like push bikes, and parachutes? What happened to being able to fly planes? Why is the sky limited to the height of the tallest building? Why is there a skatepark but no skateboard? Why is there a motocross bike with no motocross track? Why is there such a minimal choice of vehicles? It seems like there are the same amount of vehicles as San Andreas. These are the questions that Rockstar should have catered for in the game. The stroyline is definitely better than San Andreas and much more interactive but people want to be able to do other things in such an expansive environment. With all these questions it makes you wonder why the release date got pushed back so far. One would think it was to make the game better. Grand Theft Auto, whilst being a top notch game, failed as far as many are concerned. Rockstar had the ability to make a game that would set a benchmark for many years to come. I personally hope they listen to their fans and the next GTA has all this and more. Jump to article
